Emergency Student Loan Program
The Emergency Student Loan program administered through the SORC is intended to assist students in overcoming minor financial emergencies related to his/her education. Because of the relatively small operating base from which these funds are derived, it is imperative the borrower repay his/her note as agreed to so that others who follow might be able to benefit from the fund.
Loan Criteria
- Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled students carrying 6 or more credits during the term in which they are applying. Over the summer months, eligible applicants must be enrolled for 6 or more credits during any of the summer sessions or the fall semester.
- Eligible applicants should not have any financial holds on their University account.
- Students enrolled in their last term at the University of Pittsburgh must apply for this loan no later than 60 days prior to the end of the term.
- Complete repayment of any previous Emergency Student Loan is necessary for new loans to be approved.
- The maximum amount any loan may be approved for is $300.00.
- Loans are repayable in monthly installments up to a MAXIMUM of 3 MONTHS coinciding with the PittPay billing cycle set forth by the Student Payment Center.
- Loans must be paid in full prior to graduation.
- Failure to repay your loan as agreed upon may result in the holding of your transcript or diploma and not being permitted to register for future terms.
- A period of two-three working days may be required before your loan can be approved and the money advanced.
- The Mrs. George H. Clapp Fund – Awarded to graduate student applicants. Interest is computed at the rate of 6% per annum on the unpaid balance of the loan.
- The Undergraduate Emergency Loan Fund – Awarded to undergraduate and CGS student applicants. Interest is computed at the rate of 6% per annum only on payments received after the due date. Payments received 10 days prior to the due date will be assessed no interest.
Applications are available at the SORC office in 833 William Pitt Union. Valid PITT ID is required to receive an application.
Any full-scholarship student athletes must have prior authorization from Donna Sloan before applying for an Emergency Student Loan.
